The Leaders After Saturday's Games

Leading the way with 38 points is...

TD1

Don't worry that's a superficially high place for that entry, which will fall in future rounds.  TD1 has Pitt in the Final Four.  Dumb.

Awards

The Rooting Against the Home Team Award goes to the Cantaloupe2 entry.  Our newest member of the Prod. Dev. team, Matt Cantele (a.k.a. Cantaloupe, a.k.a. NewMatt, a.k.a. Tiger, a.k.a. Baseball Mat, a.k.a...) turned in three brackets this year.  (Though, the second one, Cantaloupe2, was clearly written in a different, frilly, feminine hand.  Hmmm...)  One experienced at the art of bracket prediction knows full well that hedging is often a great strategy to maximize the chances to perform well.  In this case, having the only entry that picked Temple over the hometown Aztecs didn't do him any favors.  This bracket also went against BYU and Arizona.  Why so angry at your home region?

The 2009/2010 Kansas Jayhawks Memorial Bracket Buster Award goes to the Pittsburgh University Panthers.  Especially embarrassing for the Panthers is not only having arguably the easiest path to the Final Four of all the #1 seeds, but also the way they finished their game against the Bulldog Butlers.  First, a shot clock violation that set up Butler's go ahead layup, then missing the second free throw that would have put them back ahead after Butler stupidly fouled the inbound play, then finally handing the game back to Butler by fouling on the missed free throw.  Well executed.  (Not criticizing the refs.  Those are both fouls that have to be called.)  Crossing Pitt off of every bracket's Southeast Regional Semifinal line, not too mention many lines after that on more than a few brackets, ran my pen out of ink.  It was pulled from a fresh box of Sanford Uni-ball (who says the double entendres have to end now that Morehead St. is out) Vision Exact micro point, metal tip red ink pens at the outset of this years bracket contest, and thanks to Pitt it has moved on to its place of eternal rest.  Adieu my writing utensil of choice.  You will be mourned.  (Seriously, Sanford, that is a comically small ink reservoir in those pens.  I don't care how smoothly it writes.)  Honorable Mention (tie): Georgetown and Michigan St.

Light posting the rest of the day due to what is likely to be endless trips to Home Depot for building supplies today.  There will be a score update tonight.  Enjoy the games.

I am sporting a Florida TShirt today after a well deserved win by the Gators over my alma mater, BYU, and a loss to Devin on the bet. It's a bittersweet morning because I can no longer watch Jimmer in a BYU uniform, but I picked Florida to win in the bracket and it's a really cool shirt. I might just keep it.
